States of Consciousness considers emotion not as something felt, but as something seen through; grief, anger, peace, tenderness.. each functioning as a state of awareness rather than a passing sensation. The work points to a constant beneath them: the witnessing eye that holds every state without being fixed to any one.
Some days the light comes in blue,
and I am grief; quiet, distant, cool.
Some days it comes in red,
and I am anger; burning, urgent, alive.
Pink, and I am tenderness.
Green, and I am peace.
Every color a different door
into the same room.
I am not one state.
I am the eye that holds them all;
shifting, bleeding, becoming;
and still, somehow, seeing clearly.
I see through myself.
I see through consciousness.
I see through whatever I am today.
I see.

BETWEEN WORLDS
Painted in oil on canvas, each work in Between Worlds is a world unto itself. Symbols, forms, and imagery are integrated into each painting as part of a larger visual language, sometimes subtle, sometimes central to the composition. The works begin with a feeling, an idea, or an intuitive impulse, sometimes arising from something I have perceived through life and sometimes arriving without explanation. I follow this initial direction through sketches and into paint, allowing each work to develop its own atmosphere, character, and meaning.
